STUDY OF FREE FORMALDEHYDE REDUCTION AND FIXATION OF GASEOUS FORMALDEHYDE AS BY-PRODUCT OF OBTAINING OF FLUORESCENT PIGMENTS BASED ON AMINE-SULFONAMIDE-FORMALDEHYDE RESINS

Almost in the whole world the high performance criteria, variety of production and processing methods and high economical effect of polymer resins provide their increasing production and application. One of the promising applications of resins is production of powder paints. But one important problem related to the production of such resins is toxicity of emitted formaldehyde during processing and its disposal. Due to deterioration of ecological situation scientists focus their attention on development of new technology of production of resins of the lowest toxicity to meet the requirements international ecological standards and to be safe for broad applications [1, 2].
Aim of research work is development of technology of production of amino-sulfonamide-formaldehyde resins and fluorescent pigments based on them which provide low emission of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is one of the main objects in the production of such resins and pigments, but itself it is hazardous substance. Significant concentrations of formaldehyde in air and water believed to be carcinogenic, cause reproductive harm and birth defects [3]. It was developed a method for controlling and reduction formaldehyde emission during preparation of fluorescent pigments by absorbing it with distilled water and aqueous solutions of urea and sodium sulfite. Formed amino-formaldehyde oligomers as a result of absorption formaldehyde with urea solution found a use in preparation of amino-formaldehyde resins which can be used as binding agent at the production of pressing materials [4].  
Also were developed methods of reduction of free formaldehyde content in obtained fluorescent pigments by physical and chemical treatments. Physical treatment is that fluorescent pigments after preparation put into vacuum oven and heated at preparation temperature for a definite period of time to provide better cross-linking of polymer. Chemical treatment is that pigments after preparation heated in hydrogen peroxide dilute solution at 60°C, then dried at 105°C. This method provides banding of free formaldehyde with hydrogen peroxide. It found that, free formaldehyde content after chemical treatment is equal to 0,030-0,034%, which is ten times less than permissible amount established by interstate standard ГОСТ 14231-88. It found that, chemical treatment does not significantly adversely affect fluorescent properties of pigments [5, 6].
