PROBLEMS OF TRAINING OF FOREIGN STUDENTS IN PRE-UNIVERSITY STAGE
The education of foreign students begins at the preparatory department. This is an extended period of time during which foreign students should test their ability to learn in a foreign language and their living in the new climatic conditions.
Foreign language take the principal place at this preparation step. It is impossible to integrate into the society for a foreign student, if he doesn’t know language of this country. Students of the preparatory department have to learn educational and Humanities subjects besides foreign language. The teaching of these disciplines gives foreign students the missing knowledge in subjects that they have got at home. When foreign students study educational disciplines, such as biology, chemistry and others, they have to obtain knowledge on the subject and to learn the language base, which is necessary for study in the first year of university. That is because, professors of certain subject have to teach "the subject through the language or the language through the subject".
Among the problems that affect the pre-university training, there are some else:
1. The quality of the selection: as a rule, many students have pass/ average marks in school certificates.
2. Low motivation to learn the language of education.
3. Variations of size and quality of the groups that is distributed because of arriving at different time.
One way to get rid of this situation can be a distance education, when a potential applicant is requested to undergo pre-university training online. The advantage of distance education is also in allowance for a student not to "lose" a year of learning. But foreign students do not still fully understand the possibilities of distance education and don’t see the communication with a professors possible. But this communication is exist.
However, in spite of all the problems - getting education through the distance education system remains attractive way for foreign students from around the world.
By studying distantly foreign students should not take a long and a difficult process of psychological adaptation to residence in another language environment (without knowing this language), to overcome the domestic difficulties and to adapt to a different culture. Distance education allows - to "soften" this process, by the progressive introduction to a new language environment, gradual studying of biological, chemical, physical terminology, in absentia of new culture, features and history of the country. Being in his native country, without being distracted by the problems of everyday life foreign student can devote more time to the studying not spending time on the problems of everyday life, and then having arrived to Ukraine it is - to adapt to the new environment, it frees some time. This allows future students to to get new knowledge effectively in the university.
